2022 Camp Grant Recipient: Miguel Carrillo

Coach Barron started his coaching and teaching career at Fort Lupton High School. Today, we give back to the wrestling program he was honored to serve by providing camp grants to Blue Devil wrestlers.

We're back to our business of helping wrestlers improve their skills by awarding camp grants! This year, we've continued with providing $250 to each of the Colorado high schools where Coach Barron led teams: Fort Lupton, Heritage, and Columbine.

First up in our grant recipients: Miguel Carrillo, Fort Lupton High School. Here’s what his coaches had to say about him.

“This is the young man’s first year of wrestling. He came to every practice and off-season open gym. To watch his improvement has been astonishing. With the Ray Barron Strength & Honor Fund grant, Miguel was able to attend the Western State University wrestling camp this summer, and he continued to surprise all of us coaches with every match he wrestled. Thank you for giving Miguel And our team the opportunity to get to the summer camp.”

“I started wrestling because most of my friends did,” Carollo said. “I wanted to try out a new sport, and it seemed like this would be a good option. Once I started wrestling, I realized how much it takes to wrestle. I like that you have to be committed to the sport. Through wrestling you find friends and it builds you up as a person, and that’s what I like about it.”

Congrats, Miguel! We can’t wait to see you on the mat this season. Good luck in school and in all your wrestling endeavors!
