Columbine High School’s Darrell Miller is one of the 2021 RBS&HF Wrestling Camp Grant recipients.

UPDATE: Darrell Miller fractured his arm before the team traveled to University of Wyoming for the team wrestling camp. After careful consideration, he returned his grant to the fund to be awarded to two other wrestlers from Columbine who could fully participate in the camp. We appreciate Darrell’s show of character in his decision!

To kick off the 2021 nomination and application season, the RBS&HF elected to offer $250 grants to be used toward fees for wrestling camps. The board chose to focus on the three high schools in Colorado where Coach Barron led teams—Fort Lupton High School in Fort Lupton and Heritage and Columbine High Schools in Littleton. Coaches chose the recipients based on exhibiting strength and honor on and off the mat, as well as need and other circumstances. Along with the grant money, each recipient received a RBS&HF T-shirt for themselves and one to give to another wrestler at camp.

We asked each wrestler to submit a short note about what wrestling means to them and how it’s been an asset to their lives. Here’s a message from Darrel Miller of Columbine High School.

“To me, wrestling is more than just a sport, and it has taught me more than wrestling. Thanks to the coaches, I’ve been able to achieve things I never thought I would be able to. Not only have I become a good wrestler, but I have also become a good young man. Wrestling has impacted my life in many good ways, and it has made me who I am today. To show strength and honor you always have to hold yourself accountable for the things you do, not only on the mat but even off the mat you should still have that same discipline. Another way to show strength and honor is by pushing through everything you think you can’t do because once you do that you’ll be able to push through anything.”
